Buying property in a foreign country on your own can be a challenging experience. It is a tedious process and learning the laws is very important. In Indonesia, the Agrarian laws are extremely intricate and they restrict direct land ownership to Indonesian citizens only. Understanding the rules and regulations for foreigners wanting to invest in Lombok is, therefore, crucial.
Foreigners cannot own land outright in Indonesia. The laws are quite clear; do not let anyone lead you to believe otherwise.
Foreign citizens can, however, acquire land use rights through a long term leasehold agreement (Hak Sewa), or through a foreign-owned company (PT PMA) under HGB title (Hak Guna Bangunan) for a period of 80 years.

is selling rights to plots of land under HGB titles or under a 80 years old leasehold agreement (Hak Sewa).
In order to buy a leasehold agreement, all foreigners need is a valid passport. This option is the easiest and preferred way for most international citizens.
To own land under HGB title, however, foreigners will need to establish a foreign-owned company PT PMA and adhere to all rules and regulations that come with, including but not limited to, a minimum capital of 10 billion rupiah.
